Metropolitan Akita is a three star hotel that towers over Akita Station, making it a recognisable landmark for those arriving in Akita. Famous for its natural beauty, regional food and traditional festivals, visits to Akita won't disappoint and the Hotel Metropolitan Akita makes for a convenient rest point from which to enjoy the best of Akita.

Rooms are impeccably modern, spacious, clean and kept to a high standard. With many of the rooms on higher floors, excellent views of Akita City can be enjoyed from many of the 115 non-smoking rooms. Large windows further accentuate this, allowing plenty of light in, with the floor-to-ceiling curtains providing perfect darkness when you need it. Family rooms are also available. The hotel is officially described as a business hotel, but it is definitely suitable for tourists, families or anyone else looking for comfort and a high standard of hospitality. Prices vary from $73–$204, based on average rates for a standard room.

If you visit Hotel Metropolitan Akita, you should consider the breakfast option, with an extensive selection of dishes available. Japanese options like miso soup, curry, rice and noodles complement more Western options which are also available. There are plenty of fresh bread, eggs, bacon, sausages, vegetables or yoghurt with fruits. Don't forget the local specialities too, like rice ball soup, or Damako-nabe.

On the culinary side, guests will be spoilt for choice. The Dining Manyo restaurant offers regional Akita cooking with a creative flair, whilst Restaurant Cuore offers buffet dining alongside set menu options, also showcasing seasonal Akita dishes. 'Main Bar Stars II' offers a quieter setting where guests can relax with a glass of their favourite tipple, overlooking fantastic night views of the city.

Hotel Metropolitan Akita is quite a large facility and comes equipped for a variety of events. It has a conference room, wedding chapel, business rooms (offering computers with high speed internet). Business rooms are free of charge for guests to use, and all hotel areas have free Wi-Fi too. There is a dry cleaning service too.

The best way to get there is by train. The hotel is located literally next to Akita Station and it is easy to find. I stayed at the Metropolitan when I was visiting Akita and neighbouring cities using my JR East Past for Tohoku area. I took bullet trains to move in between the cities and staying at Metropolitan Hotel, so close to the train station, was a great option.
