Something about a beautiful sight in winter that is completely covered in a blanket of snow - inspiring a poetic mood for all its visitors. This was exactly what it was like at the top of the Yuzawa Kogen ropeway in Niigata Prefecture, overlooking the beautiful mountain ranges. The lift carries a max load of 166 people, and in fact, it is the world's largest capacity lift. Do your best for a spot next to a window!

Getting there

From Tokyo Station, it's about a 75 minute ride on the Max Toki 333 Shinkansen to Echigo-Yuzawa Station, and after a short 10 min walk (or transfer to closer Sanroku Station) you'd see the ropeway station. ¥1600 for a return ticket gets you one of the most beautiful winter sights you'll see in all of Japan.
