1923（大正12）年の関東大震災で、横浜は壊滅的な被害を受けた。当時、港町の復興は則ち、外国人を呼び戻すことであり、民間企業が外国人向けのアパートメントとして建築したのが、山手234番館であった。設計は隣の洋館、白壁に赤い窓枠の「えの木てい」と同じ、浅香吉蔵である。内部には間取り3LDKの住戸が4戸あり、1927（昭和2）年から1975（昭和50）年まで使用されていた。12月は、クリスマスの飾り付けがかわいらしい。
