Japan’s cherry blossom season has earned a place on a new travel bucket list published by The Telegraph, which highlights 20 experiences the newspaper believes are worth prioritizing after turning 50.

Titled The Mid-Lifer’s Travel Bucket List: 20 Things to Do After Turning 50, the list brings together a range of memorable journeys from around the world. Alongside experiences such as safaris, rail adventures and Himalayan hikes, the annual spectacle of sakura season in Japan was singled out as one of the travel moments that deserves a spot on the list.

The article notes that visitor numbers to Japan have continued to rise in recent years, with spring remaining one of the country's most popular travel periods. From around mid-March through early April in many parts of the country, cherry trees burst into bloom, covering parks, riversides and historic landmarks in shades of pink and white.

For centuries, sakura has held a special place in Japanese culture. The blossoms are associated with the arrival of spring, as well as the idea that beautiful moments in life are often fleeting. That sense of impermanence is a big part of what makes the season so memorable for many visitors.

The Telegraph recommends experiencing the blooms through hanami, the traditional custom of gathering beneath flowering trees to admire the blossoms. Hanami events take place across the country as the blooming season gradually moves northward, offering travelers countless opportunities to take part.

While The Telegraph's list is aimed at mid-life travelers looking to make the most of their future adventures, sakura season is one of those experiences that transcends age. Whether you're planning a milestone trip or simply looking for a memorable reason to visit Japan, seeing the cherry blossoms in full bloom is something we'd recommend experiencing at least once in a lifetime.
