Perfect Day for Cherry Blossoms

7,000 cherry trees at Negoroji Temple in Wakayama

On April 10th in 2011, I visited Negoroji Temple in northern Wakayama. This temple is famous for its 7,000 cherry trees which are spread throughout the spacious 3,500,000 ㎡ grounds.

At this historical temple where the atmosphere of the Middle Ages still remains, gorgeous cherry blossoms bloom every spring. In northern Wakayama, monks used to have power. To protect their rights, they armed themselves to rebel against the reigning samurai. As a result, they bore severe attacks and their temples were burnt down. You would never imagine such calamities had once struck this place. as you look at the cherry blossoms blooming peacefully under the soft spring sunshine. They are radiant like the sun itself! What a perfect day for cherry blossom viewing!
