Fans of Japan's endlessly adorable characters will soon have a new reason to visit central Japan, as a dedicated Chiikawa-themed sweets shop is set to open its doors in Nagoya this March. The third permanent Chiikawa Yaki store will launch at Nagoya PARCO on March 17th, 2026, marking the brand's first location in the Tokai region and a must-visit stop for character lovers exploring Nagoya.

Chiikawa Yaki serves fluffy, freshly baked pastries shaped like the beloved characters from Chiikawa, a popular manga series by illustrator Nagano that follows the everyday adventures of the small and hardworking Chiikawa and friends Hachiware and Usagi. The franchise has grown into a cultural phenomenon in Japan, spawning books published by Kodansha, merchandise collaborations, cafés, and a television anime airing on Mezamashi TV since 2022.

The new shop will serve its signature chiikawa-shaped cakes, made by sandwiching generous fillings such as bean paste and cream between soft dough and baking them fresh in-store. To celebrate the Nagoya opening, visitors can try exclusive flavors including azuki butter, strawberry cream made with tochiotome strawberries, and a rich cheese filling made with French Camembert powder. Classic varieties such as red bean, chocolate, and custard cream will also be available in set menus.

Located in Nagoya PARCO's West Building basement, the store features a calm Japanese-style design with burgundy tones, while displays of Chiikawa characters dressed as shop staff welcome guests. Alongside the sweets, travelers can browse original merchandise including mascot keychains, eco bags, stickers, and souvenirs available only at Chiikawa Yaki locations.

The Nagoya store follows earlier openings at Yokohama World Porters and AEON Mall Makuhari New City, reflecting the growing popularity of the themed dessert brand across Japan.

Due to anticipated high demand, advance reservations are required to enter the store via an online lottery system beginning March 3rd.

Getting there

Nagoya PARCO is located just a minute on foot from Yabacho Station.
