Akita Design Hub and Craft Center

Antiques, Glass and Ironware

The Akita Design Hub turns even simple utilitarian items such as a kimono chest (tansu) and glass goblets into works of art. It captures the essence of the four seasons in nature and celebrates tradition in a way that is accessible to this generation.

The sun and the moon in particular are celebrated with a series of Kanto Matsuri posters, carefully selected by the curator and showcasing the festivities of the rice harvest season.

Local and up and coming ironware and textile artists are showcased in a sympathetic fashion which blends gallery chic and department store accessibility.
