Visitors to Expo 2025 Osaka will be able to experience one of the most talked-about attractions in the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion: the “Future Human Washing Machine.” Unveiled for the first time during a preview event in late March, the innovative bathing pod blends Japanese bathing culture with cutting-edge fine bubble technology, promising to cleanse not only the body but also the mind.
Developed by Osaka-based company Science Co., Ltd., the device is a modern reimagining of the original “human washing machine” exhibited at Expo ’70. This updated version uses ultra-fine and microbubbles to gently wash the body, while biometric sensors track the bather’s physical and emotional state. The system can even display calming imagery to uplift or relax the user based on their mood, offering a uniquely personalized bathing experience.
Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura was the first to try the machine during the preview. Initially nervous, he emerged from the pod visibly refreshed, calling the experience smooth, gentle, and “the bath of the future.”

Visitors will have the chance to try it for themselves through public applications during the Expo. The device is located on the first floor of the pavilion, while a companion exhibit called the “Space Shower,” exploring future hygiene in outer space, is displayed on the second floor.

Science Co., Ltd., known for its popular fine bubble shower heads, hopes the installation will inspire new approaches to self-care, aging, and health monitoring. With Expo 2025 themed around “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” the Future Human Washing Machine offers a fun yet practical glimpse of what everyday wellness might look like in the decades to come.
