What makes a great airport? For many travelers, it’s a combination of efficiency, cleanliness, friendly service, and well-considered amenities, whether that means tasty food, relaxing lounges, or easy transfers. Each year Skytrax—one of the most trusted names in airport reviews—releases its list of the world’s best airports, based on millions of passenger surveys. The ranking is a global benchmark for quality, and in 2025 several airports in Japan have once again earned top spots.

Tokyo International Airport (HND) ranked third overall in the 2025 Skytrax World Airport Awards announced in early April, earning high marks across several categories. It was recognized as the World’s Cleanest Airport among major airports, the World’s Best Domestic Airport, and the top airport globally for PRM (Persons with Reduced Mobility) and accessible facilities. Haneda also led the rankings in the 70+ million passenger category, underscoring its ability to maintain top quality service at scale.
Narita International Airport (NRT) also secured a strong position, coming in fifth worldwide and ranking within the 30 to 40 million passenger range. Rounding out Japan’s presence on the list (but just outside the top 10), Chubu Centrair International Airport in Nagoya was ranked 17th globally and once again received the award for World’s Best Regional Airport. Transport hubs like Centrair play a vital role in connecting travelers to areas beyond major metropolitan hubs, supporting tourism, business, and local economies alike.

Many would agree that hospitality, precision, and high-quality service are trademarks of Japanese culture, and the results of the Skytrax world's best airports compilation for the year reflect just that. To explore more of this year's rankings, visit the Skytrax website here.
