Fukui's Katsuyama Castle

Surrounded by history, dinosaurs, culture, great views

Fukui is home to Japan's tallest castle. Katsuyama Castle, just short of 60 meters in height, is situated very near some other wonderful places to visit in Katsuyama, including The Fukui Dinosaur Museum, and Heisen-ji Temple. The castle (with a 700 year history, but rebuilt in concrete in 1989) includes a museum with artifacts from the surrounding district.

It's a beautiful castle from afar, but what really grabs your attention are the great views. From the 6F observation deck, you have a view in every direction for miles and miles. Spectacular!

Getting there

A short bus or taxi ride from Katsuyama Station, on the Echizen Line.
