Tucked away in the mountains of Fukushima Prefecture, Hoshino Resorts Nekoma Mountain is a rare spring destination where travelers can enjoy both deep powder and cherry blossoms in the same trip. Thanks to over 250 cm of snow still on the summit as of mid-April—more than any year in the past five—it’s one of the few places in Japan where skiing continues all the way through early May.

The resort’s seasonal campaign, "Spring Nekoma," makes it especially convenient for visitors. Ski and snowboard rentals are free for both adults and children with a valid lift ticket, making it easy for first-timers or those who are traveling light. Private lessons are also available at discounted rates, with one-on-one instruction for everyone from beginners to advanced skiers looking to sharpen their skills.

With 33 runs and 13 lifts, Nekoma Mountain also offers a wide range of terrain. In spring, the snow is soft and the temperatures are milder, making falls less painful and the experience more relaxed. The resort even opens early on weekends and holidays so visitors can enjoy crisp morning conditions under clear skies.
Beyond the slopes, the surrounding area offers another seasonal treat: cherry blossom viewing. Spots like Sakura Pass and the Kannonji River are usually in bloom from late April into early May, adding a unique layer to your spring ski trip.
