Great looking, lively wine bar and meat specialty, adults only dining in the Otemachi area near Peace park. Sante is a large venue, in a great location in Otemachi. It has a great concept of an open terrace style wine bar and it is right on the corner of a busy dining and drinking area. This will be a fun stop for couples and groups in warmer months. It is still cozy in winter as they have the heaters pumping and blankets for added warmth if seating near the plastic on the terrace.

I have to say that despite enjoying the wine bottle decor and lively set-up of the place, not to mention the fun open terrace plan, it was in fact a slight disappointment. The wine was rather an expensive option and it was not easy to order by the bottle. The food was also limited in selection and the prices were not as reasonable as one would expect for tapas.

Promoting itself as a wine bar, customers who want to enjoy a bottle of wine are shown to the front of the shop to buy bottles of wine from their selection near the entrance of the shop. This is a bit of a hassle as it would be easier to make a selection from your table of course, but then you are also asked to pay a ¥1,000 corkage charge to drink it at your table (despite the fact that you just bought it from them). Wine bottles start from 900 yen, so it is still slightly cheaper than buying by the glass. If you choose some of their house wine by the glass, it is served in small wine glasses for around 500 yen, if you buy a bottle you are allowed decent sized wine glasses.

It is not really a place to come if you want to eat and drink on the cheap- a couple glasses of wine and small plates of food will cost around 3,000 yen. However, if you come for a short stop over, it is not a bad place to enjoy a glass of wine and a snack before or after you've eaten.

The menu focus is for meat lovers, cholesterol be dammed- served in many different ways: stewed, spiced, grilled and fried- in strips, steaks and in sausages. If you are a meat lover, you will be spoilt for choice and if you prefer not to eat much meat, you should probably eat before you go.

There is no English menu, but some of the staff speak a little bit of English. There is no non-smoking section and can get quite smoky at night, despite the size this is not a family-friendly venue and advertises a no-kids policy. This is quite a large venue- they can seat up to 70 people at a time at tables and around the middle cooking area on the counter.

  • No kids and not assessible for wheelchairs
  • No non-smoking area, Smokers Paradise
  • No English menu
  • No Parking or discounts
  • Credit Cards Okay
  • Reservations Accepted
  • 飲み放題 Drinking deals available with group reservation

I've been living in Hiroshima since the mid 90's & still discovering new things to enjoy. I'm a big fan of both the old "wabi sabi" as well as modern and new designs, Japan offers both of these type of places to explore and enjoy. Even after many years here, I am still discovering surprising, fan...
