Hyousetsu no Mon is a must-try restaurant when in Sapporo. Hokkaido is known for its excellent crab, and Hyoutsetsu No Mon is one of the oldest restaurants specializing in crab dinners.
Open since 1964, this restaurant serves crab in all its forms, including sashimi, grilled, tempura, shabu-shabu, and steamed. Several varieties of crab including red king, horsehair, and snow crabs are available.
Dinner set courses can include a single crab type or a mix of different crabs. A la carte items including steamed rice with crab are available as well.
The service is attentive and personal, and the setting is informal and fun. English menus are available and the choices are easy to navigate. There are private rooms with tatami flooring for larger groups and tables for smaller groups.
Reservations are recommended and can be easily made in advance online.
