For lovers of all things floral, Hokkaido's Kamiyubetsu Tulip Fair is an absolute delight during spring. The tulip park spans an area of 12.5 hectares, with around 200 different tulip varieties planted over a 7 hectare space. The park continues to diversify their tulips each year, bringing in new varieties from The Netherlands and from Tonami in Toyama Prefecture, known as one of Japan's top tulip-growing regions.

The event also has a range of fun activities to take part in. One of the most popular is the digging experience zone, where you can dig up your favorite tulips to take home and replant -- perfect for the green thumbs out there!

Do note that like any flower festival, the dates can be subject to change depending on blooming conditions. It's advisable to check the official website before you plan on attending, but a rough estimate is from early-May to early-June.

Getting there

Yubetsu Town is located around the central Okhotsk coast area of Hokkaido. It's around 30 minutes drive from Mombetsu Airport, 90 minutes from the Memanbetsu Airport, or approximately a two hour drive from Asahikawa.

For those heading to the area via public transport, head to Engaru Station on the Sekihoku Main Line. The tulip park is around a 10 minute cab ride from there.
