There are plenty of large-scale illumination events across Japan which see hundreds of thousands - and in some cases, millions - of lights decorate different areas. There are others which are smaller in scale but still provide plenty of festive season joy, such as the Awaji Highway Oasis Illuminations. From early November right up until Christmas Day, the roadside rest area will feature an impressive 9-meter high Christmas tree for visitors to enjoy which is decorated with around 20,000 lights.
The tree has featured at the highway rest area for almost 20 years now, delighting travelers as they transit through the area.
Getting there
The Awaji Highway Oasis is located within the Hyogo Prefectural Awaji Island Park, and is directly connected to the Kobe Awaji Naruto Expressway's Awaji Service Area. On-site parking is available for over 500 vehicles.
Alternatively, the venue is around 7 minutes by taxi from the Iwaya Port area.
