Newly opened on September 22nd, Ichijo is a luxury ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) located in the fishing town of Kasumi in Hyogo Prefecture. Home to just six rooms, the ryokan is the work of the Tokyo and Osaka-based Super Maniac design firm, who have won numerous awards in Japan and abroad for their architectural creations.

The Rooms

As mentioned above, Ichijo is home to just six rooms, offering a boutique-style ryokan experience. Tastefully decorated, many of the rooms incorporate chic, minimalist mountain and sea decor in a nod to the surrounding area. The decor in the room below is inspired by the cladding on traditional fishing village houses, but it uses colorful kimono fabric for an eye-catching wall display.

Dine

Due to Ichijo's location between both mountains and sea, the food on offer here includes top quality seafood, Tajima beef, and ultra-fresh fruits and vegetables grown in the local area. Best of all, a stay here is all-inclusive, meaning you can eat and drink as much as your heart desires.

Relax

Ichijo has designed itself as the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway, thanks to two private onsen and even a meditation room at the premises. The onsen water is said to help with a number of different ailments including poor circulation and muscle aches, and the meditation room is designed in an ultra-minimalist fashion — because of this, users can really slow down and stay in the present moment.

Getting there

Ichijo is located 4 minutes by taxi from Kasumi Station, which is served by the Sanin Main Line. The hotel also offers a pickup service from the station, so please reach out to them if this service is preferred.

For those who opt to drive, the ryokan is around 3 hours from the Osaka and Kyoto areas respectively.
