The Tamba-Sasayama area of Hyogo Prefecture is known for Tamba ware, which is one of Japan's most noteworthy types of ceramics. The Tamba Yaki Pottery Festival has been running for almost half a century, and approximately 50 different potteries will be taking part in the event.
Attendees can take advantage of bargain pottery prices, try their hand at pottery wheel experiences, and connect with the makers of the items available for purchase.
Please note that some, but not all potteries accept card payments. It's advisable to bring yen if you plan on making purchases just to be safe.
The event takes place at multiple venues around Tachikui Pottery Village. The general area can be accessed in around 15 minutes by bus from JR Aino Station, which is served by the Fukuchiyama Line.
For those who opt to drive, the pottery village is around 15 minutes driving time from Sanda-Nishi I.C. on the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway.
