Ibaraki's Ryujin Suspension Bridge spans 375 meters in length and offers some stunning views of the surrounding area, especially during the fall foliage season when the leaves are changing. The Ryujinkyo Autumn Foliage Festival has been running for over 30 years as a way to appreciate the colors of the season from an amazing vantage point.
Normally, there is a bridge crossing fee of 320 yen for adults, but on Ibaraki Prefectural Citizen's Day (Monday, November 13th) the fee will be waived.
Getting there
The Ryujin Suspension Bridge is located a 40-minute bus ride from Hitachiota Station, which is served by the JR Suigun Line. Take the Ibaraki Kotsu Bus bound for either Shimotakakura or Shimotakakura-Daigo, and get off at the dedicated stop for Ryujin Suspension Bridge or Ryujin Suspension Bridge Iriguchi.
For those who opt to drive, the bridge is a 40 minute drive from either Hitachiminami-Ota IC or Naka IC on the Joban Expressway.
