Far from the well worn tracks of the JR rail system, the spectacular Kitayamazaki Cliffs in Iwate are well worth the effort to get to.
Towering 200 meters above the scalloped coastline, you can use a number of esplanades to reach observation decks to view the wind and water sculpted pillars that decorate the Tohoku coast line for nearly 8km. Check out the visitors center for maps and details of boat tours.
