Exploring Miura’s eastern cape

<p>‘Hana-no-hiroba’, situated within the Park is an area containing many colorful plants and flowers. This area is particularly popular with people wanting to escape the crowds on the beaches several meters away</p>

<p>In fact, there were so many different colors that it was impossible to keep count</p>

<p>‘Fureai-no-Suihen’, situated towards the eastern side of Kannozaki Park. Overlooking a picturesque pond, this area is great for meeting some locals as most tourists don't come this far</p>

<p>Towards the northern side of the park are several rocky walls which have become overgrown with rich vegetation. Perhaps I was not alone in thinking that this looks very similar to Ankor Wat</p>

<p>Leading up to the lighthouse is this large cave.  According to legend, a giant snake lives here so don't get too close!</p>

<p>Kannonzaki Lighthouse. Built in 1867 by French engineer Leonce Verny, this was the first modern, western style lighthouse to be introduced to Japan. Its construction was ordered by the then Tokugawa regent in order to provide a viewpoint in which to see any incoming ships entering Tokyo Bay</p>

<p>The remains of a brick ‘battery’ built at the turn of the 19th Century. During 1880-1895, following the opening up of Japan to international trade, this whole area became a huge sea fort built to protect Tokyo from any perceived foreign invasion</p>

Located on the eastern side of the Miura Peninsula, Kannonzaki is a great place to enjoy the summer with a wealth of attractions guaranteed to satisfy even the fussiest of people.

Along with boasting some impressive sandy beaches, several specially designated barbeque and picnic areas provide the perfect setting in which to enjoy the great atmosphere.

For those wanting to escape the heat and crowds, nearby Kannonzaki Park provides the perfect rest bite with its endless walking trails passing through lush green stretches of forest and colorful flower gardens. Located at the top of this park is Kannonzaki Lighthouse, offering some spectacular views of the coast.
