Mooring deck is a cosy café located in Kobuchi, Kanagawa.

I had a warm welcome from Kimie, the manager when opening the door of the café and sat down to look at the menu, which was in the form of a book. The menu is in both English and Japanese, which is great, and Kimie also speaks fairly good English. Lemon water is available in the middle of the café for customers to use whenever they want and Kimie also brings water over to you. The interior was cosy and quite spacious, mostly made from natural wood. There are over 20 seats inside the café as well as outside seating.

The majority of the menu is vegan, except for a dish with shrimp and fish sauce but each meal can be personalized on request. I waited for about 15 minutes for my lunch order and it was all freshly made. I ordered the Veggie deli; this came with brown rice, bread, humus, potatoes, tofu balls, quinoa cabbage, rocket, carrot and also a Miso soup on the side. I specifically enjoyed the potatoes and tofu balls. The portions are quite large compared to some other places I’ve been to in Japan and I was full after my meal. I also opted for the blueberry muffin, which was coated in a nice berry sauce, and little bits of fruit, this was crispy on the outside but warm and soft on the inside and seemed freshly made. The mint leaves used in my tea were cut fresh and came in a large jug and all of the ingredients seemed freshly produced.

I would suggest that the café is very suited for a couple wanting to go on a date or anyone wanting to eat some nice, fresh healthy food in an relaxing environment. They also host various events here such as pottery classes and healing tarot. Kimie was very friendly and went outside to wave the customers goodbye after leaving.

Although this café is hard to find without mobile directions it is fairly easy to get to, being a 10-minute walk from Kobuchi station. The opening times are from 11am until 10pm every day of the week and they also cater for parties and group bookings.
