Venue : Myohoji Temple and surrounds, Kanagawa When : Mid Feb 2025

In the Edo period, the Sugita area of Kanagawa Prefecture was renowned as a plum blossom viewing spot thanks to over 30,000 plum trees that were planted in the region. In an attempt to revitalize the town, the Sugita Plum Blossom Festival will be held for two days this February at Myohoji Temple and its surrounds.

Around 100 plum trees can be enjoyed at the event, including a famous weeping plum tree that was admired by Empress Eisho and Empress Shoken during the Meiji period. It's a far cry from what once comprised the Sugita Plum Grove, but the scenery is beautiful nonetheless.

Along with the blooms, the festival will include a variety of music and cultural performances, plus plum-related goods available for purchase from stores in the area.

Getting there

The main venue (Myohoji Temple) is located approximately 10 minutes on foot from either Sugita Station (Keikyū Main Line) or Shin-Sugita Station (JR Negishi Line and the Kanazawa Seaside Line).
