Temple twenty seven in the Shikoku Ohenro pilgrimage is also known as the God Summit Temple.
One of the most difficult climbs in the pilgrimage, the path leading to the temple continues for more than a kilometre at a slope of 45 degrees. Interestingly, the mother of Baron Iwasaki (the founder of the Mitsubishi Enterprise Corporation) prayed for her son's success at this temple and the corporation later patronized the temple.
The water of Konomineji flows out of two rocks within the temple’s grounds and is said to have healing properties. To get there, catch a Gomen-Nahari line train from Kochi station and get off at Tanohama station. From there it’s about a 90 minute walk.
