Looking forward to a great days fishing trip heading out to the Amakusa Islands in Kumamoto Prefecture in South Western Japan

The kind obasan and oyasan preparing the boat but we were so excited we couldn't wait to go sailing and fishing in the seas off Kumamoto and Amakusa

Delicious seafood and chicken platters, full of sashimi and huge whole cooked crab await you for lunch on board the boat, sink it with some non-alcoholic beer, Kirin beer or sake

This boat operates in all seasons except the occasional typhoon the odd day in July to September

Relax and take in the ocean breeze on the Utase Sailing Boats

The sight of another Ukase sailing and fishing boat in the summer haze silently drifting in the still waters reminded me of a junk or the ghost of the Flying Dutchman

The fish are abundant off the waters of Amakusa Islands in Kumamoto Prefecture

Breathe in the ocean breeze onboard the historic Utase sailing ships, which are an icon of Ashikita and the Asakusa Islands in Kumamoto, as well as the Setouchi Inland Sea. When they are in full sail they resemble a noble women in a white cotton dress.

The friendly but discreet crew of Ashikita town took us out on a relaxing charter for a few hours out to sea, with beautiful views of the islands that dot this area. You can go line fishing, and they can either store your catch, or prepare a delightful picnic style meal with homemade miso soup. If you don't catch anything, they can still serve you a light lunch . What a relaxing day to enjoy nature just off the coast of Kumamoto.
