Moomin: The Art and The Story

A special exhibition taking place at the Kumamoto City Museum of Contemporary Art looks into the art and the story behind the Moomins, a popular cartoon created by Finnish author and illustrator Tove Jannson. The event will showcase around 500 different items such as original drawings and sketches, with a focus on pieces that belong to the Moomin Museum in Tampere, Finland.

Adult admission to the event is priced at 1300 yen.

*Do note, this is a separate event from the traveling Moomin Comic Strips Exhibition, which is currently moving its way around Japan.

Getting there

The Kumamoto City Museum of Contemporary Art is located just a minute on foot from the Torichosuji tram stop. The tram there can be caught directly from Kumamoto Station.

For those who plan to drive, please note that there is no dedicated parking lot at the museum. Information about paid parking lots nearby can be found on the official museum website here.
