Located in the historic Chouhangan district of Southern Kumamoto is Tsunagi Hot Spring Shikisai. From your near private onsen at the top of the waterfall you can enjoy one of Kumamoto's top 100 views with the mountains behind you and the Amakusa islands in front of you. The reflection of the historic Chouhangan stone arch bridge on the mirror like stream below, forms an almost perfect circle and is a photographer’s delight.
There are separate bathing areas for men and women in this semi-circular building which is minimalist in design and features a charming country style wood ceiling. There are several hot and cold water baths as well as an outdoor bath. The brown tea colored hot springs are full of minerals to leave your skin supple.
Yatsuhiro Shinkansen station is just a short distance away meaning you can leave Osaka or Kyoto on Friday afternoon and be here for supper, with the adjoining restaurant being famous for its ribbon fish, freshly caught from the Shiranui Sea. The scenic Hisatsu Orange Railway also winds its way here from Yatsuhiro, giving glimpses of the sea below.
