The art collective Naked has gained notoriety for hosting incredible light and projection mapping events, and a new one coming to Kyoto's Heian Shrine this December is bound to follow that precedent. Naked Yorumode Heian Jingu includes a brightly illuminated Oten-mon Gate (the front gate of the shrine), along with various light and sound displays at the shrine's Main Hall, Souryu-rou Tower, and garden grounds.
The event also provides an inventive way of keeping a level of social distance from others -- the Naked Distance Lanterns ® project beautiful light circles on the ground, giving an indication of how far from others you should stand.
Even sanitizing your hands is done in style at this event, with flower projections displayed on visitors' palms as the sanitizer is dispensed.
Admission prices to the event differ depending on the day you visit. From Monday through Thursday, prices are ¥ 1500 for junior high school students and above, and ¥ 1000 for elementary students. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, the rate increases to ¥ 2000 for junior high students and above, and ¥ 1500 for elementary students.
Heian Jingu can be accessed in approximately six minutes on foot from Higashiyama Station, which is served by the Tozai subway line. Bus services also operate from Kyoto Station to the area - take the Raku Bus #100 which has a dedicated stop for the shrine.
