Tottori Prefecture is the smallest prefecture for population in Japan. It lies on the Japan Sea side of lower Honshu Island and is part of the Chugoku Region. It borders Okayama, Hyogo and Shimane prefectures.

With a population of close to 600,000 its treasure would have to be the people. Always friendly, warm and welcoming.

Tottori has many cities but the two largest cities are Tottori and Yonago Cities. Tottori City located close the the Hyogo Prefecture border and Yonago City next to the Shimane border.

Like most places in Japan there are things that are produced that are considered the best and for Tottori that would be the Japanese pear (nashi) both the original type and the newer 21st century version.

Due its location next to the Japan Sea seafood plays an important role for the local economy and you are guaranteed to be able to eat delicious fresh seafood all year round.

Tottori is home to Mount Daisen which is the tallest mountain in West Japan, in summer people enjoy hiking the trails and in winter skiing down the slopes.

Just outside Tottori City you will find the famous Tottori Dunes which are the highest sand dunes in Japan.
