Moments from the Geishas of Gion can be found the delightful streets and lane ways of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka. In the times of old, there were taverns and inn houses in the area for travelers heading east on their annual pilgrimage from Edo to Kyoto on Tokaido Road.

These days, travelers from around the world sample the old world charm of the wooden ma and pa shophouses that line the way between Yasaka Shrine, Kodai-ji, and Kiyomizu dera temple. You can walk around and buy textiles, accessories, fans and china, or just drop in at the traditional Kyoto snack shops or cafes.
