Did you know that Japan is famous not only for sake but also for whiskey? In 2014 alone, the Nikka Whiskey Distillery won eight Gold medal awards in different categories for its products. The Miyagikyo Distillery offers free tours (in Japanese) and you will have the opportunity to sample some of its products. While you are there, I suggest you pop into the shop and have a look around. Apart from the wine and whiskey, there are chocolates and cakes that you won't find elsewhere. There are free shuttles to and from the Sakunami train station. If you have some free time, why not learn about the history of whiskey in Japan?
