A big part of Japan's allure lies in the fusion of tradition and modernity on show in many parts of the country. Projection mapping events held at historical locations are a good example of this, and a special event this October brings colorful illuminations to Nara's Horyuji Temple.
The event celebrates the 30th anniversary of Horyuji's registration as a World Heritage Site, and the temple's precincts will be decorated in unique ways. One of the highlights is set to be the Nandaimon Gate adorned with autumn-themed projection mapping displays in line with the season.
The illuminations and projection mapping will be displayed from 6pm until 9pm during the event dates, with last entries taking place at 8.45pm.
Getting there
Horyuji Temple can be accessed in around 20 minutes on foot from Horyuji Station, which is served by the Kansai Main Line. Buses are also available from the station – take bus number 72.
