There are numerous colorful blooms to enjoy across Japan during spring, and tulips are just one of them. If you're in Niigata, a great place to appreciate them is at the Gosen Tulip Festival, which showcases approximately one and a half million of these flowers in different colors and varieties.

Along with the impressive number of tulips to enjoy, the festival typically offers a range of local produce for sale.

As is the case with all flower festivals, the dates can differ each year depends on blooming conditions – however, the usual timeframe for the flowers to be at their best is mid to late April.

Getting there

The Gosen Tulip Festival takes place in the Sumimoto area of the city. It can be accessed within around 10 minutes by taxi from Gosen Station, which is served by the JR Banetsu West Line.

For those who opt to drive, the tulip area is approximately 10 minutes from the Yasuda Interchange on the Ban-etsu Expressway.
