When you're looking for the ultimate in relaxation during your time in Japan, staying at a ryokan is just the ticket. These traditional Japanese inns often include meals and hot springs on site so you can soak your stresses away - and Shiosai No Yado Seikai in Beppu proved to be a perfect spot to unwind. This ryokan offers rooms with private balcony onsen overlooking the tranquil Beppu Bay, and most accommodation options also come with breakfast and dinner included.
The meals are presented beautifully. Breakfasts can be served up in either Japanese or Western style, and even the Western breakfast has a modern flair to it. The standard kaiseki (multi-course) dinner is quite seafood heavy, but Shiosai No Yado Seikai are incredibly accommodating if you're not the biggest fan of fishy dishes. I opted for the meat course, which had plenty of delicious Oita wagyu on offer.
Getting there
Shiosai No Yado Seikai is located under 10 minutes on foot from Beppudaigaku Station.
