Okayama City is the capital of Okayama Prefecture. With a population of over 700,000 people it makes it a comfortable city to visit. Like all places in Japan transportation is efficient and readily available. At the front of Okayama Station you have access to buses, taxis, trams and bicycle hires. This city is a very easy place to use a bicycle as its pretty flat and makes for discovering the city more exciting. The main streets are signed in English, Japanese and Korean. But if you decide to go off the beaten track to see what exciting treasures or eateries you can find, you will easily be able to find your way back to your hotel or back to the station.
This city has Korakuen Garden (noted as one of the 3 best gardens in Japan), Okayama Castle (the black crow) museums, temples (Sogenji Temple which has a large population of foreigners who are in training to become a monk), shrines, Higashiyama (light mountain treks just 15 minutes from downtown), Okayama port to whisk to away to islands in the Seto Inland Sea and shopping and local themed eateries for every palate.
