Enjoy the natural beauty of this Okinawan island

Not far on the ferry from Naha in Okinawa, Zamami island is one of the most peaceful, beautiful places I've been in Japan. There's only one settlement of any size; other than that, it's pretty much completely unspoilt. The island is covered with forest, and there are beaches and coves where warm, clear water laps gently on the white sand. It's a perfect place to go for a complete break from the noise and hassle of life in a city.
