Bernard Buffet (1928 - 1999) was a French expressionist painter, and his body of work includes still lifes, nudes, portraits, and landscapes. A special event at Shizuoka's dedicated Bernard Buffet Museum will explore around 100 pieces from the first decade of his career, giving a glimpse into the inspiration behind his art.
Admission to the museum is priced at 1000 yen for adults, and 500 yen for high school and college students - those younger than high school age receive free admission. No advance reservations are required.
The Bernard Buffet Museum is located a short free shuttle ride away from Mishima Station, served by the Tokaido Shinkansen, the Tokaido Main Line, and the Izu Hakone Railway's Sunzu Line.
For those who opt to drive to the museum, take the Susono IC from the Tomei Expressway, and then take Route 246 towards Numazu for approximately 10 kilometers. Free parking is available on-site.
