I found these sculptures interesting. A lot of these in different forms and shapes are all over the sidewalks and streets of Numazu. (Photo: Tyra 'nell Pille-Lu)

A stroll around Numazu Station from the south exit

There is so much more than what meets the eye. The laid-back town of Numazu in the central part of eastern Shizuoka Prefecture will surely capture any tourist’s heart.

It is about a 30-minute drive to the foot of Mount Fuji and a few minutes away from the beach and port area. That’s not all – aside from the quiet and peaceful atmosphere it offers, the shy but warm and friendly people will give any visitor great comfort and a sense of being at home, especially after one has been around the busy streets of Tokyo.

The locals are more accommodating than most of the people you will meet in the bigger cities, and I was happy to be able to live there for over a year before moving to Tokyo. In the big city now, I can't help missing the bigger sense of warmth and comfort I felt when I was in Numazu.

Getting there

Numazu station is on the JR Tokaido and JR Gotemba lines.
