This shrine was the very first one built in this complex of shrines

It was 6AM and not a soul was there...except for me

This blackbird was not afraid of me in the least. I wondered if he wasn't actually a spirit-bird watching over this shrine

Everywhere you look, there is another shrine to be discovered

The huge, old, proud cedars tower over everything here

Turned a corner and found this little gem looking down on me

A little buildiing tucked away in the corner of the woods with bonsai on display

Japan is blessed with an abundance of beautiful nature. Their cedars are like gods

Early in the morning in the rain, the Tosho-gu torii were beautiful and majestic

Most of us hope for a full week of sunshine when we are out traveling. But it doesn't alway happen that way. I recently spent a weekend in Nikko and it rained almost the whole time. But guess what? It was beautful! In this short series, I'd like to share the beauty of Nikko with you--in the rain. This story focuses on the nooks and crannies of the area just OUTSIDE Toshogu Shrine. Very beautiful.
