Mount Mitake is undoubtedly one of Tokyo's top spots for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Located just a few hours away from the center of the metropolis, the 929-meter high peak offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. It's also a great place to enjoy the best of autumn's color, and the Mount Mitake Tenku Maple Festival is a celebration of the season.
The event is running from late October through late November, and will include a wide variety of vibrant changing leaves to appreciate. There will also be some other fun activities scheduled throughout the festival dates, including an ocarina concert on November 3rd (Culture Day), and a violin concert on November 11th.
Getting there
Mount Mitake can be accessed in around 90 minutes from central Tokyo. Take the JR Chuo Line train from Shinjuku Station until you reach Ome Station, and from there, transfer to the Ome Line bound for Okutama until you reach Mitake Station. Buses are available to the cable car from there.
