Tokyo's Great Buddha

Not very famous, but really impressive!

Deep inside Tokyo, lies Japan's third largest Buddha of its type, after those in Nara and Kamakura.

Surprisingly not very famous, this Bronze Buddha Statue is 13 meters tall (including the base) and weighs 22 tons! It is located at Jourenji Temple in Akatsuka, Itabashi. In its original location, Nakayado, this temple was visited by the Tokugawa Shoguns, which explains why the Tokugawa Family Crest is on the temple gates.

Nara and Kamakura are surely the main attractions when talking about Great Buddha statues, however the Tokyo representative feels different, maybe because of the holy atmosphere due to its very few visitors.
