The snow walls were as high as 15 meters that day. Oh, bring a hat to protect you from the sun and to keep you warm if needed.

Visit Toyama's snow corridor of Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, near Murodo Terminal. It is a place where you can feel as if you have truly gone to another place. We can surround ourselves with walls of snow, breathe the crisp mountain air, and enjoy a walk down the snow valley. The snow walls near Murodo are open for walking each spring. In 2012 the walkway officially closed June 10th, but you can pass through other areas with snow throughout June. I went up there May 12th.

Having lived in Toyama for over 10 years, I have come to cherish this place. I want to share Toyama's cultural and sightseeing treasures with as many as I can. I am an American born hiker, photographer, mother, English teacher, environmentalist, and cross-cultural communicator. From the magnificent Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route to the delicious seafood from Toyama Bay, there are so many things you should come here to experience. The quiet vast rice fields with traditional homes and residents following traditional ways of living, may also intrigue you.christina.nunotani@japantourist.jp
