Each year from around late April until early May, Yamagata's Mamurogawa Park hosts a plum blossom festival where visitors can enjoy the beauty of 450 plum trees in bloom. It may seem like a late start to plum blossom season compared to other parts of the country, but there's a fun benefit to it - you can often enjoy both plum blossoms and cherry blossoms at the same time here. The festival typically includes a variety of stage performances to add to the atmosphere.

If you can't make it to the park during the spring season, never fear - the grounds here are home to an array of floral beauty that you can enjoy at other points throughout the year.

Getting there

Mamurogawa Park is located around 10 minutes on foot from the JR Mamurogawa Station, which is served by the Ou Main Line. For those who opt to drive, parking is available on-site.
