Hamura City Library in the suburbs of Tokyo will be holding a “Book Recycling” event on March 12th and 13th. By giving away old books and magazines, the library hopes to minimize garbage within the city.
Volunteers, mostly students and senior citizens, will be setting aside several boxes of reading materials for interested residents. There will be no reservations and giving will be done on a first-come-first-serve basis, with a limit of ten books per person.
The giveaway will take place from 10:00am to 4:00pm on March 12th, and until 3:00pm on March 13th. Those who are interested are encouraged to bring their own bags, as paper and plastic bags are not provided.
The organizers are also seeking more volunteers, preferably high school students or senior citizens, in preparing for the event at 9:00am on March 11, as well as on the days of the event. For more information, you may visit Hamura City Library at 2 Chome-11-2 Midorigaoka, Hamura City or call them at 554-2280.
