<p>Before six o'clock in the morning no one is on the street, although it's always crowded during daytime</p>

<p>Kami-sanno Machi is designated as an important traditional building preservation area</p>

<p>The warabi-mochi (bracken mochi) from this Japanese cake shop Iwaki is just wonderful. I make it a rule to stop by every time I visit Takayama.</p>

<p>The street came to a dead end at the old Jinya house (encampment). This is the end of Kami-sanno Machi, so I turned back to retrace my steps.</p>

On October 11 in 2010, I visited Okuhida, then moved to Hida Takayama. I've been here many times before, but I find something new every time I visit. There is lots to see and enjoy here!

My purpose this time was to see the old streets of Takayama. These streets remind you of Kyoto, and they are designated as important traditional building preservation area. Since this historical town is so popular, it's always crowded during daytime. I prefer waking up early in the morning when the street lights are still lit, and exploring in peace, instead of fighting the daytime crowds. Walking leisurely along the streets of Takayama on a cold winter morning is just wonderful!
