The Takasaki Byakue Daikannon is a large statue located atop of Gunma's Mount Kannon, and it stands almost 42 meters in height. There are numerous cherry blossom trees planted around the statue and across the surrounding mountains, making for a stunningly tranquil spot to enjoy the best of sakura season.
On the first Sunday of April each year, the Takasaki Spring Festival is held around the city's Motenashi Square and Kannonyama Shopping Street, where visitors can enjoy views of the blossoms plus the Daikannon statue a short distance away. The event also includes various eats available for purchase, cultural performances such as taiko drumming, and hands-on experiences like daruma doll painting.
Getting there
The Takasaki Byakue Daikannon is located approximately 20 minutes by bus from JR Takasaki Station, which is served by various lines including the Joetsu Shinkansen, the Hokuriku Shinkansen, the Takasaki Line, and the Shonan-Shinjuku line. Take the Gururin city loop bus (Kannonyama Line).
