Yoi Mise in Toyooka

Soba noodle shop next to a rice paddy

This little soba noodle shop is located in the holy land for soba lovers, Toyooka (豊岡市) in Hyogo Prefecture. It is easily accessed after a short drive from the center of Izushi, a castle town with traditional architecture where you can eat almost everything buckweat-flavored (crepes, cakes, mitarashi dango, pudding etc.). They have their own style of soba noodles called Izushi zara soba, served in five small plates.

However, at Yoi Mise (善店), they serve both Izushi plate soba and traditional soba noodles in one big bowl. Before you sit at the table, you will need to take off your shoes. While waiting for your order, you can enjoy looking at the peaceful rice paddy.

The portions are large and will definitely satisfy even the hungriest visitor. The shop is very crowded on weekends. In case you give up on waiting to get into Yoi Mise, here is the list of other soba noodle shops in Izushi http://www.izushi.co.jp/en/sobamap_en/
