A Day in Kamakura

Exploring Kanagawa Prefecture

If you’re visiting Tokyo then you need to organize a one-day trip to Kamakura, a city in Kanagawa Prefecture. It’s a seaside destination with a lot of of cultural and historical significance, and since it’s only 50 kilometers away from Tokyo it attracts many tourists, especially during the summer. I visited in early December.

One of Kamakura’s highlights is Kotoku-in, a Buddhist temple famous for Daibutsu, or Great Buddha, a 13.3 meters tall bronze statue of Amida Buddha. If the weather permits, I would also highly recommend a walk down to the beach where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset. Who knows, if you’re lucky you might get a peek at Mt. Fuji!
