The grounds of Engaku-ji are located just steps from the train station at Kita-Kamakura. In the autumn, it's easy to follow the crowds who head to the temple grounds for the stunning displays of foliage. It pays to come early to avoid most of the masses but once you get past the mob near the front gate, the grounds are big enough to escape some of the hordes. The rear of the complex sees a number of vibrant maple trees ringing a pond, while the raked stone garden of the main hall is particularly beautiful with the colors of autumn behind it
