Yokohama's expansive Sankeien garden is a stunning destination throughout the year, but many would argue that autumn is one of the best seasons to visit in. The grounds are home to numerous ginkgo trees and Japanese maples providing plenty of fall color, and this year the garden will be open in the evenings so that guests can appreciate them after dark.
The autumn illuminations take place from sunset until 7.30pm (last entries at 7pm) on the following dates:
- November 22nd (Fri), 23rd (Sat), 24th (Sun), 29th (Fri), 30th (Sat)
- December 1st (Sun), 6th (Fri), 7th (Sat), 8th (Sun)
Getting there
Sankeien can be accessed in around 10 minutes by bus from Negishi Station on the JR Negishi Line.
For those who opt to drive, a paid parking lot is available next to the garden's entrance. It's charged at a rate of 1000 JPY for the first two hours, and 200 JPY for every 30 minutes thereafter.
