Latest on Nijo CastleI'm not big on castles, but I loved Nijo-jo. In fact, it's not really a castle at all, but was the home of all Tokugakwa Shoguns whenever they visited Kyoto from Edo (Tokyo). Started in 1601, and completed 25 years later, this beautiful monument to the magnificence of what Kyoto once was is truly amazing. Start with a walk through the main building. Notice the great detail everywhere you look. The grounds and garden are wide and spacious; a great complement to the moat that surrounds the entire area. Nijo-jo is colorful year round, and it is also beautiful in b&w.
